The Cost of Nanowrimo
Now nanowrimo could cost you nothing but I have been assessing it’s cost to me – it is the month I get to do me things and have me treats so if I thought I would look at what it can cost money wise if I did everything I wanted!
There is in our region a lunch party so that is one lot of travel which comes out to about £5 plus drinks and due to how hard it is for me to get in probably a meal or at least chips so that would be £10-£15 depending on where it is held. Meet ups in general are going to cost me about £10 as the bus is just over a fiver to begin. I would have liked to have gone to a weekday meet and to take my family to the weekend ones. This starts to add up. That’s £20 a week! As I’m sorry but even though I get tap water and our ML is brilliant buys the majority of the drinks – you can’t sit in a coffee shop for several hours with out having a drink or three!
So for the month that would be basically £100.
For me the write-ins are important as it is my chance to connect to other writers and punctuates the experience and allows me to keep the momentum up!
I had saved £50 up specifically for getting to meets this year but the physical cost was basically too high – more on that later I think.
As a treat my husband gets me a jar of Jelly Beans (which I note he eats more of than me!) is is a large jar from a ware house and I think costs like £15 in itself. Then there is nice decaf coffee for me too drink which is another £7. Another £15 was probably spent on getting my seaweed snacks (yes there is a reason my protagonist eats seaweed!) and my seed and nut balls. So rounding up this is like another £40 🙁 It is actually quiet alot to me when I think about it.
There is also a finishing party which would add at least another £10 plus any nice stationary you want to use. I have a beaten up old laptop covered in stickers and gems my little girl stuck on it for me but I do tend to have a note book as well and have already used up one biro!
I would love to get a t-shirt, hoody and mug too but it is simply too much money and this is without donating to the Nano charity itself!
I have my monster blogs in general so there is no extra cost to me for this blog, hosting and domain registration but there could be!
Once you add everything I would like to do up the Nano could cost me like £200! It is my social life for November but still I think it is important to assess these things.
Well I don’t have £200 to spend so it wont happen but with treats hubby has bought me ready for the nano and just going to the meets it would be like £100.
Now you don’t have to go to the meets and I could just survive on the tap water which would slash each meet to just over a fiver and I don’t have to have the treats. But I am looking at this going – you know I haven’t been on holiday for well over 2 years and when we did go it was a social thing so the inlaws could see my little girl.
I do sort of feel guilty even though a) the treats where presents from hubby – some of which are in leu of anniversary stuff etc.. and b) I am not actually going to many of the meetings – I have made one so far.
So nanowrimo really can cost you nothing but I would love to have a budget of £200 for the month of November! What I get to spend on it is £50.
