I found this interesting blog which delves a bit into various myths and legends including some retellings 🙂

The Anne Bolyn Files

May 7th, 2010

I’ve found this fantastic website called The Anne Bolyn Files which contains lots and lots of useful stuff about Tudor England. Just what I need for The Punk In Pink.

Great Story Boarding Blog

April 27th, 2010

I found this great blog via twitter which I think should be really handy for the whole graphic novel type stuff.  It’s called Seven Camels for those who can’t be bothered to click!

The Punks Dislikes

April 15th, 2010

This one isn’t actually from EelKat but I took the concept of it from there 🙂

The Punk dislikes not being able to bath properlly as her skin becomes very itchy and is prone to flaking and the like, this is due to her unusual metabolism – she isn’t perfect she was after all an experiment and her biochemistry just produces too much skin and too much highly yummy microbe food called grease!

Apart from that it tends to be arogant business people and being burnt alive, child killers feature high in her dislikes and she makes it her mission to show them exactly how upset she is.

Supression of the masses tends to upset too but not as much as supression of her self does!

Guys leaving to have kids with other women also tends to upset her along with the feeling that she shouldn’t exists. Another thing that upsets her is that the fact that there is a conspiracy to kill her and wipe out her type which is sometimes mixed with those who wish to wipeout the humans. She has more emamys than the human race though which is impressive.

Groan

April 11th, 2010

Ok so I’m story boarding like a demond (well ok I managed like five pages but hey I’m getting there ok!) and the thing is peppered with the most awful tongue in cheek type humour – the sort of thing that makes my husband groan :/

A few years a go I drew a series of cartoons to go with my Wiggly Pet stories about some rather daft creatures and these were full of visual puns and the like – my dad rolls up at these and so do my husbands collegues but he just cringes. And this is why I feeling a bit worried about the appearance of humour in the comic but I think it is actually part of the Punks personality and so far I have avoided the actual eye-watering visual puns though not sure how long I can keep that up!

Perfectionism and Feeling Over Whelmed

April 10th, 2010

The Punk is such a large story and there are starting to be so many things that could be little side spin offs that I am starting to feel scared of even attempting it :/

The comics are something that has cuased me to assess what I want from The Punk – I want the comics art to be better than alot of what I see in comic books but though I can produce that sort of quality I am not consistant meaning that it could take me a very long time to produce the pictures if at all.

This is where I need to swallow my previous words – I suddenly see the value of a script – I can invision each panel and from the story board construct a script so that if I don’t get round to doing the art work and somehow manage to find lots of money I can have someone else draw the pictures – not sure how I would be to work for – I have an idea of how it;s supposed to look locked in my head and as I struggle to reproduce that when I try I can’t see anyone else being able to get it from words. However they would be able to get something and we would have a kick arse comic and I hoep I would be happy with that!

What I don’t really want is for this project to side track me from writing the actual novel!

I suppose I’d best get back to the drawing board (literally).

Revolations – Story Line

April 8th, 2010

The Punk is physically 12 and living with a foster family in Babel, her best friend Jesu hangs around waiting for her – they head off into Babel itself and look at the Tower which is almost completed. It is a comms tower and so much more – housing the core of their super computer system. Myth has it that the Dead live there.

The children explore and get chased by the guards. They attempt to hide with the slaves building the Tower but are apprehended. It turns out the Archetect is a friend of the Punks dad – they appear as alien/grey type creatures so different from the Punk/Jesu and the slaves but then it is revealed that their parents are the same ‘elf’ type creatures.

The Arcetect tells their parents off for letting hybrids out on their own. This is something that neither Jesu nor the Punk know about and they are puzzeling over why they look like the very short lived slaves rather than like their perants.

They realise that they are different as they have had many parent sets as the ‘elves’ live shorter lives than them – the slaves even less. They escape being grounded and go exploring the lab complex, there they find some intreging creatures and finially a room full of ‘placenta trees’ withe babies growing in sets of seven. Horrified and intrigued they explore furthur and are of course cuaght.

The story of how they came to be comes out – her and Jesu are ‘pod’ siblings and the only survivors of the Exodus from the Sea Empires of their group – they were premeature having been ripped from their placenta trees – all the ones growing are from their DNA. Horrified they vow to run away and make plans.

This means that when the terrorist attack happens which topples Babel they have supplies ready. And in the panic and confuse are picked up by the Archetect. They head out into the desert as Babel burns.

Standard Layout

April 7th, 2010

From reading on the Forum, various websites and from looking at the comics on the shelf it would appear that a comic is 20-25 pages, a graphic novel (what I would call a comic BOOK) has like 4-5 chapters of this sort of length in it and each page has a maximium of 9 panels.

There are things called splash pages which are the fall page pictures and there are names for the other panels types etc…

I have decided that I don’t want the actual panels/frames overlapping or bleeding into each other too much unless its for stylistic reasons that I feel moves on the story itself.

Comic Book Story Line – An Over View

April 6th, 2010

I have decided to go from just before Babel is destroyed in the comic books and think they will be a series that can be read as individual magizine type comics or as a longer comic book type thing – five or so of the smaller books put together.

One of the things I have discovered is that I need to re-read my own notes!

However the story line will be similar to the Punk Novel but be chronological and starting at the beginning – the first story is going to be called Revolations and the last Geneses!

This is helping me sort out things that have been nebulous ideas in my head until now 🙂

The comics basically cover the Punks life from the time she would be physically about 12 living in Babel to the point of supercomputer construction and then the fusion of human/hybrid/elf culture in the shape of what the Punk most craves.

Of course there is an awful lot of middle there :/ – perfect for a comic book series – infact I’m not sure the whole premiss isn’t more suited to this sort of medium :/
