I am filling it in for the Punk becuase I know very little about her and as my main protagonist this really will not do!

So here is what I learnt about the Punk whilst doing EelKats survey:

The Punk has many names by she was originally given a designation at the labs where she was made – Human Arien Hybrid Batch 64 gene mix alpha 7

Actual age 5000 – 6000 yrs as the book is in two time periods in two time periods her apparent age however is of a young and then an older teenager! Mentally she has aquired knowledge her whole life but is not nescerscerally ‘mature’ in attitude.

She was at the dawn of human civilisation at Babel as in the Tower of!

She is a she but often maskerades as a he! And for a chunk of the book is going to be a She/He/She – confused? You will be!

She currently resides in a Low Earth orbit

Family ties are a bit vague as the records were destroyed but she would have had lots of ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’ from the batch she was grown in – it would have been a few 1000 but most have been hunted down and killed. She was however raised and looked after by an Elf family at Babel before it was destroyed.

Physically the Punk is fighting fit and robust, good immune system and good healing but having been on the run from assassins who wiped out her birth culture and family shes a bit screwed up.

The Punk has a resigned determination and a love of style – the more over the top the better! She is also loud when not running for her life and sometimes even then

She loves living with Greece monkeys when she can, Geeks are a close second and goths if no one else is avalible – screwed up fragile religous nuts tend to gravitate towards her too!

The Punk tends to be single mentally though maybe physically involved with people – she is nervous of attatchment as they die too quickly for her and she loves too much and too deeply for that to happen each time – unfortunatly she does tend to still fall in love with the human, Chimera’s and Elves she has prolonged dealings with.

Ethnically the Punk is a Elf Human Chimera where the elves are aquatic higher primates that pre-date humans and infact created them out of the slave stock from other higher primates they had subjugated. She was also raised by an Elf family though for the past few millenia has lived with humans only and in close proximity – she has seen a range of societies and doesn’t really like or fit into any of them.

From discuessing my novel when I should have been writing at the write-ins I discovered that my story is a Coming of Age story – first of the main character a.k.a. The Punk, secondly of the civalisation and the ‘human’ races and then of Life in the universe.

This was a shock to me as I thought I was write-in a slight tongue in cheek cyber punk novel with a tank-girl come Barbie come Aeon Flux character with lots of cool gadets and fight sense – oh and of course ‘car’ cases.

It is also a political piece but my own views on things where hidden in the back ground of my mind until quiet recently so they were abit of a sock too, it involves stuff about religous wars of all kinds, intolarance and apathy and the relative dangers. It touches on what humans need, and on atrocities performed in the act of obtaining power. It covers the want and denial of children to someone who very much wants them and coasts along the tech development that leads to the fullfilment of dreams.

The danger of tech is not the tech – technology is a tool and so it touches on savour and destroyer being the same thing – in supression leading to pent up aggression and corruption and so on and so forth.

Being a trained geologist and having worked in both an anthropology lab and meteoritics (looking at meteorites) I have obviously incorporated alot of these areas into the story. I love systems and the Earth is a system the whole global warming issue is one of interprating a complex system so this by nessecity enters into the story as well.

The series itself chronicals the evolution of a system and it is going to take me alot of time to do this!

I hope it is a good piece of work and that it is not winge on humanity – it wasn’t supposed to be – rather its supposed to show us in our raw state good and bad.

I think the Punk series is about alot of things not least a human-elf (aquatic ape) high bred who has been genetically engerneered with life extention tech caught up in an age old war between two Elf/Aquatic Ape factions which could render the whole solar system dead!

I shall stop now before I embarress myself.

The Punk in Pink has expanded to a series and not a small narrow focus one at that – so I have found myself with several areas I need to research!

These are relivent to the novel The Punk in Pink do to it controlling the over all arch of the story which shapes the novels within.

There will be more as well once I start looking at other cultures and their histories! I am focusing on European to begin with purelly becuase I already know stuff about that!

I am trying to do some reading/research everyday but as these are quiet heavey subjects its taking me a while!

This old 70’s film was abit tricky to follow initially as I found it hard to work out who was King but I soon got into the swing of it! King Henry on his death bed remembers his life including his wives. It made me feel sorry for Henry and his wives – but especially Catherine Howard who was pretty much a frightened teenager.

Somehow the film felt very real and the camera angles gave a real sense of atmosphere that sucked you in – also the style of the film changed with the ageing of Henry which I liked 🙂

It did give me some insight into the bloodyness of his reign and the idea that his two duaghters where actually lucky to remain with their heads on there shoulders – something that the ploting and the like in his court could have easily brought about – with double standards and his inner court stabbing each other in the back – it was quiet enlightning!

The main thing I took away from it was that England was not functioning isolated reguardless of being an island – meaning that the Punk as Elizabeth is ‘growing up’ and inheriting a strange politcal situation from her forbears with far reaching consequences that stretch throughout Europe.

I have to say though I did find it depressing :/

Ok so I want the Elves to maybe have a little bit of nanotech but not advance nanotech but I also need them to be able to upload their minds and for this there are two ways I think it could be down one is to map the structures of the brain which would require very advanced nanotech to get the fineness of our brains! The other is to have something that is copying your brain as you grow!

And as the elves have advanced genetic engeerneering the fiddly bits that would otherwise require nanotech can be done by having tech with organic synapse tendril thingies – sort of a cyborg symbiont that is implanted in the babies when they are born – or possibly even in the womb/IV tank!

This would be the Punks implant as they would be the thing that would allow you to communicate with the super computer and therefore allows her to commune with the hidden componenets though out her stories!

I think its best not to have a physical socket or anything protruding from her skin becuase – a) they would have infection and injury risks plus being damaged or clogged up and b) they would result in her being burnt as a witch in lots of time periods she’s supposed to be wondering about for and c) I wont her to initially be unaware of it!

As I’ve collapsed Series One and Three into one it sort of seems that the story arch is really more of a continium than three distinct series.

Why is the Computer Arceteck so worried about keeping precise back ups of the memories?

The Elves are obsessed with immortality and one of the things they have persued is uploaded concousness into their computer system – now this does bring about some thorny questions as to what concousness actually is but lets say for the sake of the story that a person is encoded in the information in their brain – the structures of the brain are important etc… what happens to this data once a person dies and the storage unit decays is an interesting question and one that may take us deep into quantum machanics – but again this is an area I need to read up on a bit more.

It also raises the question of souls and the possibility of multiple copies of people diversifying and which is the ‘real’ one etc… these should all be quiet fun to fit into the story as a whole though I doubt they will be relivant for the Punk in Pink specifically!

I also need to work out away of allowing the upgrade to computer you without invoking nanotech – the reason being that if you have advance nanotech good enough to map out the structures of the brain you give the Elves the ability to easily do alot of other things which frankly doesn’t fit with the story line!

Again I have just given myself a tonne more work to do – sigh!

So the Elves had a Super Computer that was basically global it has three cores and is made of optical electronics – ie fibre optic stuff which though fragile if protected could last a long time.

The Elves are used to working with glass due to the volcanoes so it was only natural that this would be the type of electronics they would pick up rather than our traditional type.

This means that their curcritry is a lot less obvious and also that if you saw the glass discs that would be the compenents/memory stuff you would probably be damaging it!

Obviously I need to delve into this side of our own technology to work out what on earth is possible etc… but each person is part of the computing system – I mean each elf and the early human slaves they had – due to head implants.

This means that the Punk will have one of these but more on that in a bit!

The archeteck who built the computer were concerned and made an off sit back-up far away from any of the volcanic islands on an old cratonic shield – a stable part of the earths crust that has little tectonic activity – ie earthquakes and volcanoes and was deep inside a large continent and thus protected somewhat from fluctuating sea levels and the like!

This is Babel (though I have found that there may actually be some proper acheology stuff that would give the Tower of Babel a specific location so I might have to change the reasoning here!). Now this computer would basically be memory stuff and wasn’t designed really as a running system so wouldn’t have the processing power of the three cores – never the less it was something the survivors could use to build a new world after the Sea Empires were destroyed!

But fearing more than this there would have been half built plans for two other back up cores and the three together would have been able to simulate the ‘home’ system but they were only partially constructed when the collapse occured.

Seeing what was coming a secret highly simplified version of the computer was hidden around the world – split up into its components by the arceteck. Multiple copies and things too.

These are the artifacts the Punk is tracking down – she is able to communicate with them from the implant in her head.

They work using alot of Lazar Light and she carries with her a special tool – a lasar pen type thing that she’s had on and off since Babel Collapsed!

This is apparently my 100th post on this blog and as its only been around for a couple of months I thought I should mention it 🙂

I have alot more to write as well so have a feeling that I am going to end up with thousands of posts!

I suppose I should really get around to putting some catagories on this blog – but I want to write everything that’s in my head first 🙂

Anyway thanks to those who have actually been ready about The Punk and I hope you will continue to do so!

On Twitter there are chats these tend to be sceduled for specific days and times and have a hash tag associated with them – one such chat is called #litchat and during November one of the Litchat sessions had a contest called #litpitch where you tweeted synopses of your novel. There was no limit on the number sent for the same story or the number of stories.

I didn’t win – probably due to being a useless writer without someone to check it actually says what I think it says!

None the less this was a very useful excersise for me and resulted in these two ‘pitches’.
